Interactive Voice Response System For College Automation (IVRS)

Now-a-days every institution needs automation. As a part of college automation, we have decided to do a project Voice Interactive System for College Automation. Our project allows the user to know the student's attendance and marks quickly through the telephone line without the intention of the college authority. In the hardware side embedded system has been used. A 20 pin microcontroller 89C2051 is used because of its compatibility with our hardware. This microcontroller controls the whole hardware. Telephone line is used for communication purpose. Visual Basic has been used for software programming. Presentation in the class and outcome of the university are made reachable to the parents by our project. It will be very obliging to the parents to be acquainted with their son's/daughter's recital in the college.

GSM based Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)

GSM based Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting data from energy meter and transferring that data to a central database for billing and/or analyzing. The Transmitter is connected to the meter and it counts the pulses from it and displays it over the LCD display. It also transmit the data over RF to the PC. At the receiver end the data is received by an receiver module and the PC application will display it over the PC.
An GSM modem is also connected to the kit so that anybody can call to the number and get back the Meter readings as SMS. The meter reading can be obtained at zero cost. Since the microcontroller will get the mobile number and disconnect the call so the user wont get any charge for the call. Later the microcontroller will send back the meter readings to the called number as SMS.

Operating procedure

1. Switch on the kit
2. Wait until you see the Meter readings on the display
3. Give a call to the number
4. You will get the meter readings as SMS

Temperature and Humidity Controller for Infant Incubator

Infant incubator provides a controlled environment for newborns needing special care, such as those born prematurely. By placing an infant in an incubator, doctors and nurses can set and monitor different aspects of the child’s environment in order to create ideal conditions for survival and moreover it protect infants from pollutants and infection. Infant incubators and other advances in medical technology have made it possible for small or premature babies to survive.
The microcontroller AT89S52 based system keeps on monitoring the temperature of the baby and the chamber to a predetermined values, also the humidity is kept under control.

About Humidity sensor

The humidity sensor used in this project is SY-HS-220, it provides analog dc output as per the humidity.
The following table provide the humidity with respect to out dc voltage.

The output of the Humidity sensor is fed to a ADC0804.

Temperature sensor

DS1820 is used here to measure the temperature. its a 1wire temperature sensor. It have inbuilt ADC.
Circuit Diagram

Operation:

There are 3 switches (Mode, Increment, Decrement). The system continuously displays the Humidity, body temperature, water Chamber temperature on the lcd display.

If the incubator goes hot above the predefined value then the fan is switched ON.
If the incubator temperature goes very cold then the Bulb is switched ON.
If the humidity is increased then the Water heater is switched ON until the temperature reaches the desired value.

All the values can changed at any time and they are stored in the EEPROM chip.

How to Make a Robot – Lesson 1: Getting Started:

Getting Started

Welcome to the first installment of the Grand RobotShop Tutorial, a series of 10 lessons that will teach you how to make your own robot. This tutorial is aimed at anybody willing to get started in robotics and have a basic understanding of terms such as “voltage”, “current”, “motor”, and “sensors”. Although this might seem pretty basic, even people with previous robot building experience might find useful information regarding the general method of building a robot.

What is a robot?

There are many definitions of robot and no real consensus has been attained so far. We loosely define a robot as follows:

Robot: An electromechanical device which is capable of reacting in some way to its environment, and take autonomous decisions or actions in order to achieve a specific task.

This means that a toaster, a lamp, or a car  would not be considered as robots since they have no way of perceiving their environment. On the other hand, a vacuum cleaner that can navigate around a room, or a solar panel that seeks the sun, can be considered as a robotic system.

It is also important to note that the  “robots” featured in Robot Wars for instance or any solely remote controlled device would not fall under this definition and would be closer to a more complex remote controlled car.

Although this definition is quite general, it might need to evolve in the future in order to keep up with the latest advancement in the field. In order to get a sens of how robotics is rapidly growing, we suggest you take a look at the RobotShop History of Robotics.
